The scope of higher studies for a modern diploma engineer is no longer limited – the avenues are becoming wider with every passing year. But still a majority of students of diploma engineering aspire to pursue graduate engineering course in future. A brief guidance in that direction is given below.
Through the Joint Entrance Examination of Lateral Entry (JELET) , a diploma engineer can take admission directly to 2nd year of the four year course of Bachelor Degree in Engineering and Technology in any Engineering College in West Bengal. The examination has duration of two hours and consists of 100 questions of MCQ type having one mark for each question. Candidates of any trade of engineering will have same question which will cover the following subject according to the syllabus of diploma engineering by WBSCT&VE&SD.
- Engineering Mathematics.
- Electrical Technology.
- Computer Applications.
- Environmental Engineering.
- Engineering Mechanics.
- Strength of Materials.
Generally, the examination is held in the month of May every year. The applicant must be a citizen of India and must have passed or appeared in the final examination of diploma in engineering in the year in which he/she is appearing for the test. The successful candidate in JELET must secure at least 60% marks in relevant discipline to be eligible for admission to degree course. Lateral entry will be limited to a maximum 10% of the sanction intake in a particular Engineering College in the respective discipline at first year level. There is no restriction regarding age of candidate.
